2011 Retrospective: September

September in Atlanta is one of my favorite times for family photographs. The weather is amazing and allows for plenty of time before the holidays. At the same time, a chill creeps into the air at the end of the month and everyone is eagerly anticipating fall.

Pregnant at Piedmont!

I have been shooting a lot more at Piedmont Park lately and I REALLY like it!  In the evening the light is fantastic and there are many different spaces to shoot in. I meet Karen and her family for a family maternity shoot. It was awesome! They were here from the Cayman Islands preparing for the arrival of their baby (who was born a week after our shoot). They were easy-going and fun, enjoying the evening outside with their daughter. I am sad to see them go back home, but know they are looking forward to the warmer weather! Safe travels! XOXO

Goodbye Atlanta and Hello Baby

Stephanie contacted me about doing a maternity/goodbye session. She and her husband were getting ready to move from Atlanta and wanted to capture a few memories of their last days in the ATL. We spent an evening at their house then in Piedmont Park. It was so much fun and the light was AMAZING. The number one way to make me melt, give me Piedmont Park at dusk *swoon.*

Andrea and David {Baby on the Way}

I was so excited when Andrea told me she wanted to do some indoor and some outdoor shots for her pregnancy session We started out at my little indoor studio then headed out to Stone Mountain. I love Stone Mountain, it may be one of my favorite outdoor places to shoot. There are so many little spaces that are distinct and unique. She and David were so cute. David knew how to make Andrea laugh, they kissed like teenagers (that's a good thing!) and were SO fun to hang out with! I cannot wait to meet their little peanut in October!

Beautiful Lena and Baby on the way!

Lena was an absolute dream! We had so much fun during our shoot. We started out at her awesome house then headed to a local Alpharetta park. She was totally relaxed and comfortable (and did I say BEAUTIFUL??). I can't wait to meet the little guy when he arrives in October. Thanks so much Lena, you were great! XOXO

{Growing} Freed Family!

A couple of things I love went down during the Freed Fam photo shoot.

First, it was a maternity and family shoot combined. I LOVE this! I have had a couple of combo shoots recently and I am just crazy about them. I find it very gratifying to capture a family just before it is about to change. That time is so brief and it's amazing to be able to capture the moment for the family.

Second, we had a wardrobe change. I heart a good wardrobe change. I HIGHLY recommend every session have at least one wardrobe change. Make it an easy change, just changing shirts works well. But go for it. Show off some of those clothes!

Lauren and John {Baby on the Way}

I met up with Lauren and John at Palate (it's a PictureMommy fave!) for an awesome maternity shoot. Here are a few things about Lauren that I noticed straight away: The girl has some AWESOME high heels and can walk in said heals, she sports red lipstick better than ANYONE I know and has a unrivaled sense of style. And John, well…he's just crazy about her and isn't afraid to admit it! I cannot wait to meet Little Jack next week, pics will be up soon from his shoot!

Melissa and Colby:: {Baby on the Way}

Us photographers…we're not hard to make happy. Give me a well dressed pregnant lady, some nice light and I am one happy girl! That is exactly what I got when I spent an afternoon with Mel and Colby. Melissa had some awesome outfits and shoes and let ransack her closet (I was gentle). Colby was the perfect hubby, doing whatever we needed…like getting me a huge ladder, holding reflectors…wait, he was the perfect assistant, as well. Mel and Colby are such a sweet couple, totally in love and super excited about their family addition. I cannot wait to meet the new baby, see you guys soon!

Renae and Derrick: {Baby on the Way}

A small piece of business…time is running out for my winter special. 25% of sessions done by and prints ordered before February 28th. I do have a couple of sessions open for next week, shoot me an email or give me a call to set one up.

Now, on to the super fun stuff…

I love expectant parents! They are brimming with excitement and anticipation, counting down the days until their new family member arrives. Renae and Derrick were no exception. She was still on the post-baby-shower-high and he was proud of the nursery he put together. I wish I could bottle the energy of expectant parents and take a sip of it when I am running low on energy, it is so pure and loving.

Dylesha and Jamie: Baby on the Way!

Whew! It is a busy Holiday Season around the PictureMommy Studio (aka: my living room)!  I have been busy finishing up shoots, editing and getting Holiday Cards ordered and delivered. Somehow I did manage to get our family cards addressed and they will go in the mail tomorrow. Busy, busy days (but I am LOVING it).

The weekend after Thanksgiving I took a break from the traditional family Holiday Shoots and did a maternity session with Dylesha and Jamie. We had to get creative in finding a location, it was chilly outside and Dylesha was only in town for the weekend. Hastily, with panic setting in and fingers crossed I emailed Jill at Palate Wine Bar asking if they would let me use their space for my shoot. Jill obliged and was so nice, not letting on that taking maternity photos in a wine bar was a little unorthodox (but hey, we’re all about unorthodoxy around here). Palate has beautiful light and beautiful furniture, it turned out to be one awesome shoot.

One last note: because many maternity shots include some amount of nudity I try to limit the number of facial shots I post on this blog. Something about maintaining a sense of modesty and privacy. I assure you, however, I do take maternity shots that include the face. Thank You and Enjoy!
