Holiday Mini-Session: The Smith Family

Oh my goodness. There is so much cuteness going on with the Smith kiddos it is hard to contain my excitement of taking pictures with them! They were so much fun and kind and sweet. The two oldest helped me move my lights around and had great ideas for the pictures. Spending time with them was the perfect way to beat the rainy-Friday blues!

The Lyon Family

It is Blog Post catch up time! I have enjoyed spending today with my family, we made friend rice and a double bath of chocolate chip cookies. I love this time of year and getting to spend a little extra time with my kiddos (and hubs) is even better. Wednesday we leave for a nice, relaxing, 12 hour drive  Missouri (even Katie the Dog is tagging along). I am, again, reminded how fantastic family is and how they give me a wonderful little world to live in.

Two weeks ago I spent an afternoon with the Lyon Family and their very sweet, dinosaur-loving boys (PM shout out to Dinosaur Train for teaching me what a Frill is). I snapped pictures as the boys decorated the Christmas Tree and we rearranged furniture and played with puppets. It was a great time!

Dylesha and Jamie: Baby on the Way!

Whew! It is a busy Holiday Season around the PictureMommy Studio (aka: my living room)!  I have been busy finishing up shoots, editing and getting Holiday Cards ordered and delivered. Somehow I did manage to get our family cards addressed and they will go in the mail tomorrow. Busy, busy days (but I am LOVING it).

The weekend after Thanksgiving I took a break from the traditional family Holiday Shoots and did a maternity session with Dylesha and Jamie. We had to get creative in finding a location, it was chilly outside and Dylesha was only in town for the weekend. Hastily, with panic setting in and fingers crossed I emailed Jill at Palate Wine Bar asking if they would let me use their space for my shoot. Jill obliged and was so nice, not letting on that taking maternity photos in a wine bar was a little unorthodox (but hey, we’re all about unorthodoxy around here). Palate has beautiful light and beautiful furniture, it turned out to be one awesome shoot.

One last note: because many maternity shots include some amount of nudity I try to limit the number of facial shots I post on this blog. Something about maintaining a sense of modesty and privacy. I assure you, however, I do take maternity shots that include the face. Thank You and Enjoy!

The Pomfret Family!

As I meet more and more families I am beginning to better appreciate the uniqueness of each baby, kiddo and family. Every family is  like an uber-exclusive club. There are inside jokes and private laughs along with a deep, profound love. With my family it is easy for me to overlook the profoundness of being a family. I often get caught up with doing laundry and finding socks and getting Ellie to school on time. I can forget what being a family really means to me; being present in the moment, being kind and loving them before I love anything else.

When I finish editing a set of session proofs I sit back and watch the sideshow. I look for the boring things like color, exposure and white balance consistency. But, I also look at the faces, and the smiles (and sometimes the tears). I watch the interaction in the images and end up walking away from the computer with a big goofy grin on my face because I love what taking pictures lets me capture.

Then I go rock the baby to sleep…because she is my baby, and all, and I would do anything for her not to cry.

Jen and Jim met me with the kiddos at Agnes Scott, a quick walk from their house. I was shocked to see how much Baby Jake has grown, and he has kind-of-red hair! I also had not seen Maya in a while and she is motoring all over the place! Up-down-all-around, walking, kneeing…and I think she has grown about 3 inches (Ok, maybe I am exaggerating). Hannah continues to bask in the glow of being a newly minted big sister and has so much energy (as always).

Oh, And,  if you’re a runner mark your calender for the annual One Love One Heart 5K for CdLS on February 13th at Medlock Park. I will be there trying not to have a heart attack as I run three miles. But please, come walk or run, it’s always a super fun time for a super good cause!

The Prejean Family!

Some families are so cool and special they leave an impression that I know will last a very long time…say forever. The boys were a surprise to Buzz and Derrick. They were planning on adopting and expected, when chosen, they would have a baby. They didn’t expect to have two babies! But, they did. And their family was complete. And they are so cool! The boys are fun and witty and love watching the military channel.  The entire family is now doting on the newest addition, Millie the Puppy, who is soft and squishy and didn’t like to be left out of any pictures. This family is so special to us. Derrick is one of Meggie’s teachers and makes me feel OK about being a working mom. Every morning when I drop Meggie off I hand her over to Derrick and he makes her happy. Love you guys, have an awesome Christmas!

The Morgan Family: Holiday Mini-Session!

Dejah is getting so big! I know she lives right up the street and I see her almost every day, but she is! When I was younger my dad would always explain how his life pretty much stayed the same, he did the same job every day and nothing really changed for him. I am starting to understand what he was trying to explain to me.  These kiddos all around me grow up so fast, but really, it’s just that my life doesn’t change much anymore and time has the audacity to keep passing. I always feel silly saying kiddos are so big, but they are, and I am completely comfortable giving into the cliched comments of kids getting big. Sweet Dej, you are such a big girl, and so sweet and we cannot wait to watch you grow even more from our neighborly vantage point. And, you’re parents are pretty darn cool, too!

Cards and Mini’s

The Holiday Season at PictureMommy Photography is in full swing. I am finalizing Holiday Cards and editing like a crazy woman. I am so happy with how the Holiday Cards are turning out, adorable!

On Thanksgiving I took some time to get Holiday shots of my kiddos. I have a new appreciation for the prep work families put in to dressing and coordinating themselves before our shoots! I had a grand plan in my head. Ellie would be in a cream shirt with a cute little cream and tan stripped jacket. Megs would be wearing her “2″ t-shirt (her birthday was on Thanksgiving) with a long-sleeved shirt underneath it. Ellie would be in a denim skirt with leggings and Megs would wear jeans. I could go on and on about my “vision” but it doesn’t really matter because it was utterly foiled.

Both girls ended up wearing the shirts I wanted…but that was it.  Any cute layering I had planned was thwarted by some equally cute (but not as holiday-card appropriate) $6 polka dot fleece jackets from Target in various shades of pink and purple. But, what’s a mom to do? It was Thanksgiving and I didn’t want to make anyone cry (least of all me). Here is what the girls thought about any plan I had…

Thanks ladies, please have pity on your mother as you become teenagers. Oh, I forgot that Meggie refused to put her hood down for the first 1/2 of the pictures.

My family holiday shoot debacle aside, I still have a few openings for anyone looking for last minute holiday pictures. I was thinking I can do holiday shoots up until Wednesday, December 17th to reasonably have the images back in time for the holidays.

Also! If you have a picture you have taken and would like to put that into one of my holiday cards just let me know. You don’t have to do a photo session with me to order your holiday cards from me.

Hope you are having an awesome Holiday season so far. Enjoy!
